Ahh, breathe it in, the great outdoors. There are thousands of reasons why people love this part of the country, and Boulder in particular. Outdoor activities, mild climate and all the natural beauty that surrounds us, are certainly high on the list.

As a child, growing up in the Midwest, we were fortunate to be just an eight-hour drive from Colorado’s front range. Most notable, even above ski trips, were the family camping excursions. The memories of trout fishing with my dad on a high mountain lake, listening to my mom play guitar around the campfire, and even fighting with my older sister over the Walkman headphones, will always be etched into the walls of time.

Spending 10 days in Colorado each summer was not always in my parent’s budget, but sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, my folks made it happen for us. This often meant sacrificing common luxuries throughout the year, or my dad working side jobs, but the third week in July, the Manz family was headed west. Now that I am raising my own family here in Colorado, Kate and I have begun new traditions with our kids. One of these is a pilgrimage to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in late June. If you know, you just know. We are already counting down the days.

We are excited about this issue, as outdoor activities are such an important part of life for many of us. From our family to yours, we wish you safety and enjoyment, wherever your adventure takes you.
