You may be wondering, who is that on the cover?

Her name is Chipeta, which means “white singing bird’ in Ute. She is also known as the “Queen of the Utes,” although Chipeta doesn’t fit the typical narrative archetype of a queen. She’s so much more than that. Chipeta is forever honored in the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame (we highly recommend scrolling through the impressive list) and a female figure we previously had not known of.

She was a queen of diplomacy, of peace, in a time of rising tensions between settlers and native people.
