Mountain Modern 19

We love a good reason to put together a styled shoot with Boulder’s best. For our May issue, we teamed up with Leah Colby of La Dolce Events, Fiori Flowers, Johnny Sugars Confections, Little White Dress and Andrisen Morton to create an alpine modern wedding artistically captured by Jaq Poussot Photography. We hope this inspires brides to use the best of all venues—the great outdoors.

Lake Effect

There are very few places where one can truly get that sense of privacy. With hiking trails, there is always another family or two. As far as campgrounds go—forget about it. Even quiet mountain towns fill up with eager visitors and destination wedding crews crashing each summer. Fortunately for us, we met Tommy Feldman, director, founder and main camper at Camp Granite Lake, where we finally found a true sense of seclusion. Perfect for our backcountry modern shoot (and for brides seeking solitude).

“There are few venues of this size that are so exclusively private,” says Feldman. “This is a place where you can be the only people here. Everybody who you cross paths with is your family, your friends.”

Despite the exclusivity, Camp Granite Lake is only a 30-minute drive from Boulder, yet feels like another world tucked away in the tree-covered views of the continental divide. The 135-acre property, including an 8-acre lake, was purchased by Feldman three years ago but has 80 years of rich history.

Our crew was small (only ten), but for actual weddings, the camp can house up to 125 guests, with an in-house planner and catering. Despite our few contemporary props, we let nature do its work.

“The lake and the trees kind of speak for themselves from a natural point of view,” says Feldman.

We couldn’t agree more.
